Cybersecurity Awareness Training at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta

Cybersecurity is no longer just an IT concern—it’s a daily reality for individuals, businesses, and organizations. Recently, I had the privilege of participating in a cybersecurity awareness training session with Noughtaegis at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta.

The goal of the session was simple yet critical: empower people with the knowledge to identify threats and protect themselves online.

Engaging Sessions, Real Impact

The training was highly interactive. Instead of just talking about “cybersecurity” in abstract terms, we explored real-life examples of phishing attempts, social engineering tricks, and common vulnerabilities that unsuspecting users often fall into.

Participants were shown how:

  1. A single phishing email can trick someone into giving away sensitive information.
  2. Weak or reused passwords make personal and organizational data vulnerable.
  3. Clicking suspicious links or downloading unverified attachments can compromise entire systems.

Through live demonstrations and practical tips, the audience learned not just what to avoid, but also how to respond if they ever encounter such threats.

My Role and Key Takeaways

As part of the facilitation team, I contributed to the session by engaging with participants, answering questions, and sharing practical insights on staying safe online. The most rewarding part was seeing how eager and responsive the audience was—many admitted they had underestimated how easily cybercriminals exploit small mistakes.

The feedback at the end of the session was overwhelmingly positive. Participants left more alert, confident, and empowered to take charge of their digital safety. I really wish Former Nigerian President Obasanjo himself was present but Baba was busy in his office a floor above us .

Why Awareness Matters

Cyber threats are evolving every day, but awareness remains the first line of defense. A well-informed individual is less likely to fall victim to phishing scams, malware, or identity theft. Training sessions like this are vital in building a culture of security across organizations and communities.

Final Thought

Cybersecurity isn’t just for IT professionals—it’s for everyone who uses a phone, computer, or the internet. My experience at OOPL reinforced the importance of awareness training in bridging the gap between technology and its users. By staying vigilant and informed, we can all play a part in creating a safer digital environment.

I will take my time in my next blog to talk extensively about the Cybersecurity Company Noughtaegis that i work for as well.

Thank you .
